Here are 10 short and sweet cost saving tips. You should know these but sometimes it helps to review.
- Make a list when going to the grocery store. Stick to it.
- Use grocery and restaurant coupons when you can.
- Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent. Close the shades and curtains when you leave the house this summer.
- Before you buy anything, research the prices on line and in local stores. Google the coupon codes, model numbers, and check auction sites.
- Take your lunch to work. Stop buying $3-$4 cups of coffee. Drink your coffee at home or at work.
- Eat at home as much as possible. Plan meals that are easy to cook or make a couple of dinners on the weekend and freeze. We have a white board in our pantry were we list the “Frugal Fairhope Cafe Menu“. This not only gives us an inventory of what meals we can cook but we are able to answer that constant question of “What is there to eat?”
- Bring your own sodas and snacks when watching a movie in a theater.
- Pay off your credit card balances each month to avoid finance charges.
- Don’t shop when you are stressed, go for a walk instead.
- Don’t buy convenient pre-packaged items. Buy in bulk and use ziploc bags. Fill up small water bottles at home and take them with you to avoid buying bottled water.

Silent Programs II
We have noticed that there are programs (government and private) that no one seems to know about. If they do, they are keeping it quiet. Well, we are going to try and bring these programs out in the open in hopes that it will inform the people who really need it.
Click here to see the first Silent Program – FEMA 1835 – 1836 DR-AL
For the second issue of silent programs, we just got a notice that there is a charitable pharmacy here in Mobile county. It is located on Dauphin Street in Mobile. Here is the information from their site which is at www.ozanampharmacy.org.
The Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy is a non-profit organization that provides life-sustaining prescription medication to persons with severely limited income and resources. We offer the medications free of charge to qualifying individuals.
Our pharmacy serves over 1000 individuals in Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia Counties in southwest Alabama and fills approximately 36,000 prescriptions annually. We rely on samples donated by area physicians to keep our shelves stocked and purchase generics as needed.
Our Access Your Rx program helps you get additional medications through pharmaceutical manufacturer Patient Assistance Programs and private foundations.
We work as part of a team along with those we serve and their physicians. Our promise is to serve you with courtesy and respect.

This is a very sad day for Frugal Fairhope. In fact we are a little demotivated to post anything.
Why?
We have noticed some local sites (names will not be mentioned, you know who you are) have been “feeding” information from our site.
We started this site as a way for friends and family to get great deals. We are thrilled that more and more readers are added every day. We work our tails off getting information to our readers and our efforts are not to feed other local sites.
You know who you are, so please stop the plagiarism!!!
Readers, I ask that you not support these sites and ask that they stop the plagiarism.

Here is cold tip for those hot power bills.
- Do you work away from the home?
- Would you disciplined about your time and use of power?
If the answers to these questions is “yes”, read on.
Power companies offer other options to using power and paying the flat rate. Using the example of Alabama Power, one of the options they offer is a Family Dwelling Time of Use (FDT) billing option. This means that you get to choose the rate you want to pay depending on the time of day that you use power. Check out this site for Alabama Power customers.
If you are not home during the day; you might want to consider this option.
Here is how it works for Alabama Power customers (your power company could be slightly different), you pay a base charge of $21.91, then you pay the following rates depending on the time you use power. Using power during the Off Peak times = significant savings!
Here are the rates and times:
June-September (Monday – Friday)
- On Peak (noon-7pm ) $.17 kWh
- Intermediate Period (10am – noon and 7pm-9pm) $.06 kWh
- Off Peak (9:01pm-9:50am) $.03 kWh
FFF Tip: During the summer cook with your electric stove after 7pm and do laundry in the morning or after 9pm (after the kids are asleep). That in itself will save you a significant amount of money each month. But, remember the two questions we mentioned first, you need to be disciplined to take advantage of the savings.
Thanks Eddie

Oh, sweet mailbox, you bring me such wonderful things
Free coupons and samples you even bring me bling
Swiffer Master Card can’t be beat
second in line is the free subscription to BusinessWeek
Can it be true; you have brought me another
subscription to Working Mother
The abuse you take with the storms and sprinkles
today you brought me a sample for my wrinkles
You never complain even though you are worn out and looking bleak
you look like someone has dragged you down the street.
