Sometimes Coupons are Not Necessary for Deals

| March 29, 2010

img_8791

We concentrate 80% of our time to teaching you how to save money, we sometimes don’t have time to do the deals. For example, we didn’t get to the $2 Dove printable until they ran out of coupons. We only had one $1 coupon from the Free Sample of Dove to do these 4 transactions. We were concentrating on bringing you the deal that we didn’t print the coupons. Oh well, such is life. But this does not mean we couldn’t get a great deal, especially when the Dove Register Rewards are rolling. Rolling means you can use the $4 Dove Register Reward to purchase Dove and still get another $4 Register Rewards. In most cases you can not do this, you can not pay for a product with a Register Reward from the same company as the product and receive a Register Reward for that item.

We thought about saving money on the way home from our shopping trip, and that sometimes coupons are not necessary to get a great deal. They help matters tremendously.

If you don’t have a coupon can you get a good deal?

Transaction 1
Dove $4
Dentek Floss $2
-$1 coupon from Dove free sample
Out of Pocket: $5
Received $6 Register Rewards

Transaction 2
Dove $4
Dentek Floss $2
-$4 Register Reward from previous transaction
Out of Pocket: $2
Received $6 Register Rewards

Transaction 3
Dove $4
Dentek Floss $2
-$4 Register Reward from previous transaction
Out of Pocket: $2
Received $6 Register Rewards

Transaction 4
Dove $4
Dentek Floss $2
-$4 Register Reward from previous transaction
Out of Pocket: $2
Received $6 Register Rewards

Total Out of Pocket: $11

Walked out of the store with $12 in Register Rewards

Final Price: Free plus $1 money maker

The deal would have been better if we had a coupon for the Dove and Dentek, but we will take the free plus $1 and head to Publix to purchase our Easter groceries.

If you are concerned about the 4 transactions don’t worry, we left plenty for others and we did all these transactions at the photo counter. If you are looking for the Lysol deal, someone purchased the entire stock from the Daphne Walgreen’s yesterday. We find this interesting, that while yes it was free, this is a very new product and there are bound to be ECBs or RRs to make these money maker deals own the road.

See the Post. See the Transaction.

We didn’t have to worry about Target running out of stock or making several trips to buy the rice and band aids. We price matched at the Fairhope Walmart store to the Target ad of $13.99. We asked for two separate transactions for the rice and band aid, with no problems. We used the Target coupon for the band aids. Everything went as smooth as it could.  Here is our transaction:

The Princess and The Frog DVD $13.99
-$5 DVD printable (IE) printable (FF)
2 Success Rice $1.78
-$1/2 coupon 3/21 RP
2 Band Aids $1.82
-$1 Target’s Printable Grocery Coupons
-Receive $5 rebate WYB 2 Success Rice products
-Receive $5 rebate WYB The Princess & The Frog Blue-Ray combo pack or DVD PLUS 2 Band aid products (expires 6/10/10)
Final Price: $3.19 for all!

All we paid was $3.19 for everything you see in the photo.

We confirmed that there are only 2 proofs of purchase on the back of the DVD, if we could just figure out how to get another one we could apply for the 3rd $5 rebate. :-D

Tips For Buying A Printer

| March 13, 2010

We have had some people ask about deals on printers. Here are some tips to think about:

  • Shop Toner Not Printer. What you pay in toner every 3-6 months will outweigh the price of the printer. For example if you paid $29.99 for a printer, but the toner costs $40+ that is not really a good deal. We would rather pay hundreds for a printer and have the toner cost $10 each time. You are going to have this printer for a very long time.
  • Refills. Walgreen’s will refill certain models of toner around $9.99.
  • B&W Options. Remember you should not print in color for coupons, so make sure your machine can be set to have the option to not print in color.
  • Google. Once you decide on a model for your printer, and you may have even found it locally. Google the model number to find the best price possible from a reputable company.
  • Refurbished, Other Peoples Problems. Be careful not to buy into the refurbished, which is basically used but paying almost a new price.
  • Price Match. If buying locally like Best Buy, Staples, or Office Depot, Walmart and Target price match if they sell the model you are looking to buy.
  • Company Discount. If buying locally, sign up for the company’s newsletter or Google for discount codes or coupons for the business. Don’t be in a hurry, just wait for the sale.
  • Negotiate. Again, don’t be in a hurry and ask for a discount, most stores will let you have a discount. If not there is another store just like it within decent driving distance. We don’t mind driving for that great deal. Especially on something that we are going to have for years.
  • Extended Warranty? Once you have decided on the model and company, go ahead and research their extended warranty. At the cash register is not the time to make this decision. We personally don’t buy into extended warranty on anything. We have one family member that wouldn’t buy anything without an extended warranty and continues to extend the warranty every year if possible.

We hope these tips will give you something to think about when you looking to buy a printer.

$79.53 Publix Grocieries for $11.70

| March 10, 2010

$79.53 Publix Grocieries for $11.70 (before tax)

85% Savings!

In case you haven’t signed up for Facebook or watching the site for the updates, we have been talking about how at 11am this morning the Fairhope Publix store was out of the Del Monte Fruit Chillers. One reader mentioned that it was earlier than that. That is why rain checks are our friends.

Here is what we purchased:

8 Eight O’ Clock Coffee 11-12oz B1G1 $4.99
-Used 4 $2/2 printable
Final Price: $1.50

2 Yoplait Yo-Plus Yogurt 4pk 4oz B1G1 $2.50
-Used 2 $1 coupon 2/7 SS
Final Price: $.25

8 Clorox Bleach $2.25
4 Clorox Wipes $2.99

-Used 4 B2G1 Bleach (up to $2.19) Healthy Lifestyles Coupon Paper
-Used 4 B2G1 Wipes Healthy Lifestyles Coupon Paper
Final Price: $9.24 or $.77 each

Excedrin $4.69 (filler to get to $50)
-Used Free Excedrin (offer under Free Stuff, right sidebar)
Final Price: Free

-$10 off $50 Winn Dixie coupon

For the newbies here is how we did the deal on the Clorox. Each of the coupons has each other listed as participating products. The wipes states that the bleach is participating and the wipes states that the bleach is a participating product. So remember the rule of one coupon per item. Ignore that the bleach coupon was valued only up to $2.19. Here is another way to look at what we did today.

Purchased Bleach $2.25 - Used Buy 2 (bleach & wipe) Get Bleach Free coupon

Purchased Bleach $2.25

Purchased Wipe  $2.99 – Used Buy 2 (bleach) Get Wipe Free coupon

We did this 4 times. If we had another manufacture coupon for bleach we could have used that coupon for the second bleach. So we only paid for one bleach and got the bleach and wipes for free.

Refund Rewards

| March 10, 2010

As we have said before Frugal Fairhope can be used across the country and not just in Fairhope, Alabama. If you have a Albertsons, Acme, Jewel, Biggs, or Farm Fresh around you have a great deal coming your way around the middle of this month.

Refund Rewards

If you purchase a $250 gift card you get a $20 gift card, if you purchase a $300 gift card you get a $30 gift card.

Here are the dates that you can purchase these gift cards:

  • Acme 3/19 – 4/15
  • Albertsons 3/17 – 4/15
  • Biggs 3/14 – 4/15
  • Farm Fresh 3/17 – 4/15
  • Jewel 3/18 – 4/15

We are now going to pout. We use to have a Albertsons on Airport Blvd. and Azalea Road, anyone remember that one? We can remember that where you had to stand in line (in the middle of wasn’t it July heat) after Hurricane Fredrick for dry ice. Are we going down memory lane for anyone?

Open Email = Earn Gift Cards

| March 9, 2010

Have you Join MyPoints?

We have been a part of MyPoints for years; we have received Walmart gift cards to pay for groceries and Home Depot gift cards for home improvement projects. We gave away a $10 Bath & Body Works gift card this weekend at the Pace workshop. Where did it come from? MyPoints!

We get 3-5 emails a day and each email we open is worth 5 points. You could earn up to 25 points a day, which means it would only take you two months to earn a free gift card.

Here is how we have gained points to get these gift cards:

  • Open daily emails get 5 points
  • Complete easy surveys and get 10 points if you don’t qualify, 50-100 if you do
  • Tell Us & Earn, sign on to your account answer 1-2 questions and get 5 points for each question answered.

If you shop through MyPoints you can earn even more points. For example two years ago we ordered Pottery Barn gift cards for furniture. We purchased the gift cards by going to MyPoints first, then ordering the gift cards from Pottery Barn (using the MyPoints site to point to the Pottery Barn website). This gave us 4 points per dollar that we spent on the gift cards. Sweet! We then turned those points in for free gift cards. There is no service charge for redeeming the gift cards, no shipping costs to have them mailed to you, completely free just for opening an email.

Are Birthday Gifts A Stockpile Item?

| March 6, 2010

img_8716

We talked about this in today’s Pace workshop, we routinely stockpile birthday and Christmas presents throughout the year for the Little One’s friends. This helps us avoid that last minute $19.95 Walmart Got to Find a Birthday Present for Tomorrow rush to the store. We have all done it, we have purchased a gift at the last minute and paid full price. If you keep an eye out throughout the year, and stockpile those gifts, you will already have the gift at home when you need it. We won’t stockpile more than the current years gifts. We don’t want items around the house that we may not use because we forgot about it. Go ahead and make a mental note of your little one’s friends and keep a lookout for age appropriate gifts that are at dramatically discounted prices. This is a perfect example of stockpiling boy birthday gifts for the Little One’s friends. We had purchased the Strawberry Shortcake toys for the girls a couple weeks from Walmart. Here is what we purchased:

7 Strawberry Shortcake Toys $4.50 $3 & $2 = $20
-$5 Hasbro Strawberry Shortcake purchase $20 or more printable
Final Price: $2.14 each!

FFF Tip: These were marked $4.50 but we scanned them before heading to the register and the $4.50 boxes scanned at $3. As always we left some for others. As much as we wanted to use our 2nd coupon we held back and thought we would give some of you an opportunity to get on this great deal.

We have been looking for gifts for the boys, we found a great gift for $1.30 each ($2.59/2) at the University Town Publix store in Pace. Our Fairhope store has yet to have this great of deals on toys or summer items.
