New Kellogg’s Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas

| July 30, 2010

serveimageaspx1

Have you seen the new Kellogg’s Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas? These new products are starting to show up in grocery stores, remember the Publix deal we did a couple weeks ago (click here).

When we were first approached to test fruit pizzas we were not really sure we would like them. Kellogg’s gave us the chance to try out the brand-new Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas, which include real fruit, yogurt and crunchy granola for breakfast. The pizzas came in a packed in a box with dry ice and delivered to our door by UPS. We have to say these are really easy to warm up and delicious. You can take them from the freezer to the microwave (includes a tray) to the table in no time. The Kellogg’s Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas were a hit with our family. We received the Strawberry Granola, the Mixed Berry Granola is next on our list to try.

Click this link if you want more information about the new Kellogg’s Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas

Thanks to Kellogg’s and Mom Central for giving us the opportunity to review this delicious product.

We wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Kellogg’s and received products necessary to facilitate our candid review. We received a gift card that will be arriving soon, guess what is going to happen when it arrives?

How Far Has Your Happy Reached?

| July 30, 2010

This comment came from a reader this morning. We find this reader’s comments very inspiring and thought we would share.

I just wanted to let you know what a blessing your site is to me and let you know how I was able to pass the blessing along. I started couponing, seriously in January. I have 2 daughters and a foster son all in college. We are also planning and paying for my oldest daughters wedding, which is in Oct, so needless to say money is tight, even though my husband and I both work. I have been able to stock my pantry and cabinets with enough food and household items to last us several months, even if I don’t buy another thing!

Recently my church started collecting items to send to our Youth Pastor, who is currently serving with the Army National Guard in Afghanistan. He will then distribute these items to his unit, which consist of 120 men and women. I was able to take a huge shopping bag full of items to the collection site without spending a fortune! I took toothpaste, body wash, razors, deodorant, granola bars, instant oatmeal, coffee, and several other hygiene and food items, most of which I got for free or almost free! Without using my coupon stash, I would not have been able to afford to take even a fraction of these items. It was such a blessing to me to be able to take all of these items to send to our much deserving troops and I wanted to thank you for making it all possible!

Thanks and happy couponing!

While Frugal Fairhope is a great place to find great deals (in our humble opinion) our goal is not that. Our goal is to create a community of caring and Happies! This reader took it farther than just the local community but this reader’s Happy reached to Afghanistan.

How far has your Happy reached?

For those of you who are new to Frugal Fairhope and don’t have a clue what a  “Happy” could be, keep reading.

If you get anything out of Frugal Fairhope we hope that it is not just to get the best deals but to give back to your community. The smallest thing could mean a lot to one person.

“You Can’t Help Everyone Everywhere, But You Can Help Someone Somewhere”. ~Felipe, Biggest Looser

This statement sums up the entire purpose of why we started Frugal Fairhope.

We want to help as many people as we can.

“Rough economic times” or not we are here to make an impact on someone’s life.

Post by post, coupon by coupon, freebie by freebie…saving that $.50 to getting a smile on your face or when you open the mailbox and find something there besides bills. A “Happy” (gift) as my 99 year old great grandmother Mamo use to put it. She loved getting a “Happy”. She was such a caring person that she wanted to re-gift the “Happy” and give it back to the original person or to someone new. It was almost like she wanted to share the happiness with everyone.

Frugal Fairhope is our “Happy” to you and we hope that you will share it and other Happies with everyone you meet.

Around the Town with Frugal Fairhope: School Supplies 7/30

| July 30, 2010

We thought it might help if we start putting together the deals for school supplies in one post and update it as needed. We would like your thoughts if you think this is helpful or have any other ideas please let us know. We also thought this would be a great list to print (see the green icon at the bottom of this post) and take to your local Walmart store for comparison. Of course, Walmart will not price match to the Frugal Fairhope list or to CVS deals (cards) but if you take the Walgreen’s circular for that week they will price match. Click here to find the Walmart coupon policy.

Here are the deals we could find for school supplies at CVS, Walgreen’s, OfficeMax, Target, Walmart, Publix Staples, Greer’s, Office Depot, Toys R Us and Dollar General. We will add other stores as the ads become available and mark them with “NEW” so you will know what we have added.

We have added School Supply printable coupons at the bottom of this post. We always shoot for Frugal Fairhope Being Your One Stop Shop!

Don’t forget that August 6th-8th is the Alabama Sales Tax Holiday on all school supplies, click here for more information.

Nickelodeon Your Stay

| July 29, 2010

image4

We were asked to review the “Nickelodeon Your Stay” program. Nickelodeon Marriott sent us a sample activity bag which included a splashball, sunglasses, 3D build your own SpongeBob, a Nickelodeon bracelet, SpongeBob and Patrick Pillow Case, SpongeBob Ready-To-Read Book, and a Dora the Explorer activity book. Our Little One barely let us open the box before it was taken away. The Little One thought the SpongeBob pillow case was a sleeping bag and settled down with the SpongeBob book. This made a great photo moment.

The Marriott Hotel and Nickelodeon have partnered together to bring you Nickelodeon Your Stay. Nickelodeon Your Stay starts July 1st and runs through Dec. 26th. While staying at these select hotels, kids get freebies (like the ones we received) and activities including a special secret Nickelodeon bracelet to access free online games at Nick.com, placemat and activity book.

It gets even better, Marriott and Nickelodeon also offer an $10 & $20 upgrade package that includes all the free items plus a SpongeBob activity bag and splash ball, Nickelodeon sunglasses, 3-D build-your-own SpongeBob craft, SpongeBob SquarePants or Dora the Explorer pillowcase and storybook, and bedtime storybook Visit nickelodeonyourstay.com for more details and to book your room.

Check out the site at NickelodeonYourStay.com to download kids games, travel journal, travel bingo and coloring sheets.

Thanks Nickelodeon Marriott for giving us the opportunity to review this activity bag and Nickelodeon Your Stay program. Marriott Hotels are one of our favorite places to stay. When unexpected travel creeps up on us and we have found ourselves driving around a city looking for a hotel, we know that the Marriott hotel is going to be a great place to stay.

We were not compensated for this post. We wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Marriott and Nickelodeon and received products necessary to facilitate our candid review.

Don’t Toss Expired Coupons

| July 28, 2010

img_8705

The first of the month can be a sad day for “coupon ladies & gentlemen” across the country. This is the day when the majority of coupons have expired. Millions of dollars in coupons are tossed in the trash.

If you have been to our Free Frugal Fairhope Coupon Workshops you have heard us talk about another use for those expired coupons. Military bases overseas can use expired coupons in their commissary for up to 6 months after the expiration date.

We have spent some time overseas, and we can tell you from personal experience it is not cheap. The military bases commissary offers some discounts that can help with the grocery cost but the cost of living in general is expensive. Like those of us living state side grocery costs are soaring with no end in sight, so every little bit counts.

Sending coupons overseas is pretty simple and your are sending the package to a U.S. territory so doesn’t require extra international postage.  You can get all the instructions including how and which base to adopt at the Overseas Coupon Program, www.ocpnet.org.

Here are a few tips from the site:

  • Sort your coupons by food and non food (we especially liked the calorie tip)
  • We placed our coupons in two Ziploc bags (see photo)
  • Don’t send anything that has expired over 2 months, by the time it gets there they may not be able to use it
  • Keep the package open until you get to the post office in case it is cheaper to send your package by parcel post
  • Don’t forget about completing the customs form
  • Tally the coupons value by weight or counting the values (optional)

There are several bases to adopt and the site is self serving. Fill out an on line form telling them how much you donated and the base the coupons were sent. This helps them keep track of what base is in need.

We have saved all of our expired coupons from this year and this month will be our first experience with shipping expired coupons overseas. We plan to send out a shipment of expired coupons every two months. Our next shipment will be in April. If you are interested in joining us in the Frugal Fairhope Expired Coupons Drive, send an email to Frances @ Frugal Fairhope .com (no spaces) and we will send you the details of the drop off. All coupons must already be clipped, sorted, and placed in Ziploc bags to be mailed.

Buying White Envelopes

| July 27, 2010

Are you utilizing the sneak peeks we post on Frugal Fairhope?  Yes, it is nice to know not to buy something when it will be going on sale next week. Waiting that one more week could mean saving a lot of money. We think the most important and useful tool of sneak peeks is the ability to find coupons before the sale. With just a couple days sneak peek you could find coupons and have them shipped to you. We have talked about some of the coupon clippers on the right side bar but don’t forget about eBay!

For example are you looking for the coupons for the Cascadian Farms Granola bars? You could find a coupon or two here but that may not satisfy you or your stockpile. You can find them super cheap on eBay; click the link below to follow our examples.

Cascadian Farm Coupons

Sounds crazy, buy a white envelope with coupons??? In our humble opinion it beats paying $2 for a Sunday paper (in our area) and you get exactly what you need; not a lot of coupons you won’t use.

Check it out the auction for 12 -$.75 granola bars for only $.99!

Our choice would be the 15 – $.75 coupons for $3.89 (Buy It Now). You are getting $14.25 in value for only $3.89, that is $.26 a coupon gaining $.50 for each coupon. We know from the Frugal Fairhope Sneak Peek that Publix will have the Cascadian Farms Bars on sale B1G1 for around $4 (Fairhope Publix, $3.99 in Florida). So let’s break this deal down using the eBay coupons:

15 Cascadian Farm Bars B1G1 $4 = $30
-Use 15 $.75 coupons = $11.25
-Use $5 off $25 Rite Aid
Coupon cost $3.89+ $.99 shipping
Final Price: $1.24 each

As you can see you can get a fantastic deal on the granola bars by using the coupons you found on eBay.

We know what you are probably thinking, most coupons state “void if sold”. Why are there so many coupons out there “for sale” if they are void? You’re not, you are buying the white envelope and you are paying someone to clip, collect, and organize those coupons.

Think about this for a minute, if you purchase a Sunday newspaper are you not “buying” coupons?

Woman’s Day Magazine WORKING AGAIN

| July 27, 2010

Go now to get a free one year subscription to Woman’s Day magazine. These go fast!!!

Trial Subscription: Anyone can get this for just about any magazine. This normally includes 1 or 2 issues and then comes with a bill or some even ask for the credit card information up front. We won’t highlight the trial issues on Frugal Fairhope, we want the GOOD ones!

Free Subscription: Just what it says a free subscription to the magazine? Normally this is a full year offer. A bill for the magazine should not come in a couple months and you should never have to give your credit card information. You might receive an invoice at the end of a year asking if you would like to renew. If you continue to receive “reminders” just mark the invoice with “CANCEL” and mail it back.

Why Are They Giving Away Subscriptions?: With the introduction of the internet and the higher costs of printing, magazine subscriber rates are low. This means magazines publishers can’t sell enough advertising to pay the bills. With the cost of printing, mailing, and shipping costs; the magazines publishers are not making enough  money selling the magazine on newsstands (single copy sales). The real money comes from the adverting inside those magazines. If the subscription rate is low, they cannot attract the advertisers. So in order to bring the subscription rate up, they giveaway a year subscription. This works for everyone, the consumer, the magazine, and the advertisers. Everyone is happy.
