How do Easy Rebates and Staples Rewards work?

Easy Rebate – This is a rebate given by mail in the form of a Visa Prepaid card or a check. This Visa card can be used anywhere that accepts Visa cards. Information from the receipt must be submitted on line in order to qualify for the rebate. This is very “easy” to do, no need to send in your receipts by mail it is all done on line. Submit two things from your receipt when you get home. Easy!

Staples Rewards - Earn 10% back by mail in form of a store credit/check when you purchase qualified purchases, ink and toner, case and ream paper and Copy & Print Center purchases. This credit/check can only be used at Staples. “Staples Rewards are mailed within 30 days of the end of the calendar quarter. Redeem your rewards online at staples.com, over the phone at 1-800-333-3330 or in any Staples store by the expiration date”. This does not require you to go on line to apply for the rewards. The rewards are tied to your rewards card and are credited automatically if you use your rewards card at the time of purchase. No receipts to submit, automatically will be credited to your account and mailed.

“You can recycle ANY ink or toner cartridges, up to 10 per calendar month per customer and receive $2 back in Staples Rewards per cartridge. Limit one Staples Rewards account per address. We will recycle additional cartridges but rewards will only be issued for 10 per calendar month per customer. Your Ink Recycling reward will arrive each month, separately from your standard Staples Rewards statement.”

We prefer the Staples Rebate, but do not have a problem with the Staples Rewards. We use our Staples Rewards to purchase toner and sometimes turn it back into a Staples Rebate.

Frances Frugal Fairhope Tip: Staples Rewards

| February 19, 2010

img_8648

$61 in rewards from December purchase of batteries, sharpies, highlighters and paper purchase. $6 in rewards for 2 ink cartridges (ours and a friends).

img_8653

Our toner costs us $79.99 every quarter, we used the Staples Rewards to pay for the toner each quarter. This quarter we were out of pocket $14.09 (including tax). Even though coupons are about 70% of what we print, we don’t just print coupons. We save well over $26 in groceries a month and we take advantage of the reams of paper for $1.

Staples Rewards could not get any easier, we received batteries, sharpies, and highlighters for free and got back a percentage of our paper and toner purchase. Spent $50+ in products received $61 in a store credit (batteries, sharpies, highlighters), then purchased toner with the store credit. We received an additional $6 for recycling our ink cartridges.

The Staples Rewards program is completely automated, no sending in receipts or entering anything on line. Just scan your Staples Rewards card for every purchase and when you recycle your toner.

Staples Rewards – Earn 10% back by mail in form of a store credit/check when you purchase qualified purchases, ink and toner, case and ream paper and Copy & Print Center purchases.

“You can recycle ANY ink or toner cartridges, up to 10 per calendar month per customer and receive $3 back in Staples Rewards per cartridge. Limit one Staples Rewards account per address. We will recycle additional cartridges but rewards will only be issued for 10 per calendar month per customer. Your Ink Recycling reward will arrive each month, separately from your standard Staples Rewards statement.”

Here are some tips to printing coupons:

  • Printing coupons from the internet is not that costly as long as you are printing in black and white ONLY
  • Set your printer on the lowest toner saver possible
  • Test your toner on the lowest setting for a coupon you don’t care about. Make sure the bar code is clear and that the small print is readable and not blurry. You could even take that coupon to any store’s customer service desk with the product and ask if they will test it for you.
  • Don’t print everything you see, only print the coupons that you will need or want. You can always go back and print them later. If they are not available so be it. We think this is a lot better than printing and throwing away paper and ink at the end of the month.
  • Don’t print pdfs right away, save them on your desktop for safe keeping. Traffic to the coupon may lead the manufacture to remove the link to the pdf.
