Thanks Reader R… for sending us a Walmart deal. See below that Reader R… did not use a coupon for the tissue paper but used the overage from the Nicorette Gum to “create” a coupon.

If this is a shock to you (especially if you are an employee of Walmart) please take the time to read and print (for your binder) the coupon policy for Walmart. There is a lot of confusion over this but this part of the policy is very clear:

If coupon value exceeds the price of the item, the excess may be given to the customer as cash or applied toward the basket purchase.

There is no “75% rule”; no “we can give you money out of the register rule”; we have heard it ourselves and from other readers. Walmart CAN and WILL give you money out of the register or apply the overage to the rest of your groceries.

If you get this or other “reasons” please ask for a manager, if a manager is not available walk away and call when you get home. Call the store manager and if they disagree then contact the corporate office and complain that particular store is not following their corporate coupon policy.

Now that the Christmas dust has settled, hours of shopping and wrapping gifts resulted in a 5 minute flurry of “thank you” and “oh” and silent “oh nos”, the wrapping paper has been torn to shreds and stuffed into garbage bags, guests have returned home, your home needs a complete cleaning overall (didn’t we just do that a couple days ago?), piles of gifts litter your home with no place to go; now is the time to think about returning some of those gifts. Don’t wait too long, some stores have a very small window of return.

Here are some of the common store return policies:

Amazon You may return most new, unopened items sold and fulfilled by Amazon.com within 30 days of delivery for a full refund.

Kohl’s

Without a receipt you may be given:

• An even exchange.
• A Kohl’s Merchandise Credit, good for the return value of the item. Offered at any Kohl’s.
• A credit to your Kohl’s Charge Card, if your items were purchased on your Kohl’s Charge.
• A corporate-issued refund.

With a receipt you may be given*:

• A cash or credit refund, based on the original method of payment.
• An even exchange.
• A Kohl’s Merchandise Credit, good at any Kohl’s.
• A corporate-issued refund.

Old Navy offers a merchandise exchange or a gift card for the original price of the gift, as stated in the gift reciept. Alternately, unused gift cards can be returned for a refund to the original form of payment with an original sales receipt or online invoice. Items must be returned within 45 days from the date of purchase.

Target Items must be returned within 90 days of the day of purchase and must be in new and unused condition and contain all original packaging and accessories. Music, movies, video games, software and collectibles cannot be returned if opened. GiftCards, prepaid cell phones, prepaid cards (including music, game and phone cards), or other items that carry financial value cannot be returned.

Walmart Walmart’s No Receipt policy applies to items returned in a store only. You have the option of a cash refund (for purchases under $25), a Gift Card for the amount of the purchase (for purchases over $25) or an even exchange for the product. We also follow any manufacturer’s warranties. You can make up to three No Receipt returns within a 45 day period.

Babies R Us & Toys R Us offer store credit only. Gift Returns made at any of our Toys”R”Us or Babies”R”Us store locations will receive a merchandise credit when accompanied by a gift receipt or online packing slip.

Thanks to Reader J… who made us think outside the box on sales tax. In Alabama we get so used to paying it we don’t pay it any mind. We were going to save these for Publix (run about $1.99 each) but the tax would be cheaper at Walmart ($1). We purchased 7 of these today so we saved about half the tax and they had a lot of them in stock.

All Walmart stores have different pricing, roll backs and sales from location to location. At the Fairhope Walmart store if the price is a “deep cut” they have asked for the ad (example Toys R Us Operation game, you want to carry the ad with you).  They did not have the Operation game in stock. The Fairhope store will also accept competitor ($ off coupons) and manufacture coupons (as you see from the examples above) in the same transaction. They will also price match and take manufacture coupons (as you see from the examples above) in the same transaction.

Friday and Saturday only Toys R Us will be having a sale on Crayola Crayons 24ct $1/4. Toys R Us would be a drive for us that live across the bay so price match at your local Walmart. You could price match at Target if you take the ad with you (no photocopies). While this is not the cheapest we have seen crayons it is a good deal for this time of year.

There is a 20% pass coupon (not able to print at this time) that is also good for Friday and Saturday (11/4-11/5).

I got the rebate form a few weeks ago off Frugal Fairhope. Found a $.50/2 coupon.

Picked out two cans of Lysol from Tillman’s Corner Wal-Mart and put it in my cart. Then I saw where they had this B2G1 free on display for $4.93.

So I was able to use my coupon and I can send in my receipt for the rebate which pays me $4.93 back. My cost after mailing in the rebate and sales tax is thirty four cents!

Big Lots will not take manufacture coupons but there are some Walmart stores (Fairhope) that will price match to the Big Lots ad. Remember you do not have to have the hard copy of the ad in order to price match at Walmart (Walmart coupon policy).

Can not even begin to tell you how many conversations we have had with employees of Walmart that do not know their own coupon policy. We had one today and could not convince the “ex CSM” that Walmart would give you cash out of the drawer, even with black and white proof.

Loose the battle but win the war. Today’s purchase took the CSM to visit the register 3 times during today’s transaction.  The cashier was really nice but learned what a Publix coupons looks like and that overage is OK. This purchase is going to take some research on our part. The aisle stated $2.59 for the cereal but it rang up as $3.68. We will be writing to Walmart customer service this afternoon to get an idea of how this works.

Unbelievable right?

With the purchase we made on Sunday we just had to go back and test this again. We had a different cashier and a different CSM. A friend of ours went Sunday night with no problems with the Fairhope Walmart store taking Target coupons, they also take more than one. This does come with a little patience so don’t be in a hurry; the cashier will have to check with management on every coupon (ours did). Their corporate policy is not clear on taking cents off competitor coupons; this is something that we discovered and the management has approved it without a hesitation. You will not have a back up but just ask the cashier to ask a manager and see how it goes. Here is what we did today:
