Science Diet Ideal Balance Rebate

| January 26, 2012

CLICK HERE to get up to $12.99 back when you buy Science Diet Ideal Balance. Offer good from 1/1/12-12/31/12.

If you are like us and used this last year, this appears to be a new rebate.

Here are some tips for rebates:

  • Save.  If you find a rebate save it to your desktop. You never know when the rebate form will be removed.
  • Read Read Read. Pull out your magnifying glass and READ the rebate form. If the instructions are not clear you can call the manufacture by searching for the company name on Swagbucks (good opportunity to get some Swagbucks :-D ) and ask for more details. Sometimes a 800 number is listed on the rebate form.
  • Tracking. If we are not familiar with the company we will document the date, make a copy of the rebate, receipt and any additional information the rebate requires. You might want to track the rebate form on a spreadsheet. To save on paper and ink we scan these to our desktop.
  • OnLine Tracking. Sometimes the company offering the rebate will participate in online tracking programs. Check out the CMS Rebate Tracking Center to view your rebate status. You can find the website for tracking your rebate on the rebate form.
  • Neatness Counts. Make sure your name and address are clearly written on the rebate form. If your handwriting is difficult to read, it will be difficult to process your rebate form.
  • Keeping Receipts & UPCs. You should think about keeping your receipts for future rebates. We keep ours in a wipes tub for the year and toss everything except for December receipts at the end of the year. We do not keep UPCs. We have found that most rebates (except Kelloggs) do not require the physical UPC. If we need the code we just go back to the store to get the code from the package on the shelf.

Rebate Organization

| March 21, 2011

As you know we are always on the look out for “Try Me Free” peelies and rebate tear pads in the grocery store. This is a great way to try products for free.

Did you know that you can even use a coupon for these free items? It is OK, don’t worry, you are getting your cost of postage back plus some. But, be careful when you use CVS ECBs and rebate forms. CVS ECBs can show up as a coupon and making your total purchase less than the amount for the rebate item.

Here are a few helpful hints to tracking and keeping up with rebates.

Number One and the most important of all tips.
Apply for the rebate immediately after you get home. Even if you haven’t opened the box. You can cut the UPC code from the box without opening it. Have you ever heard the saying “if I don’t do it now, I won’t do it”, well Mamo use to say this all the time. It is so true for us, if we don’t file that rebate immediately when we get home we won’t do it. It will end up in a drawer or purse and it will not see the light of day until it is too late. We know that this is hard, you just got home from the store, kids are hungry, the phone is ringing… Do yourself a favor and place it where you will see it again after things settle down. Tape it to the TV or computer screen, put it next to your keys, place it with your bills, or what we do (we keep a clean desk) we put it on our desk out in the open so we have to deal with it. If it goes in the desk drawer we will never see it again.

Number Two
Make sure you only buy one item per receipt that has a mail in rebate. Most if not all rebate offers require the original receipt. Some stores can print two receipts if you ask. Be careful with this, sometimes the top of the receipt may indicate that it is a duplicate and will not be accepted as an original receipt according to the rebate form.

Number Three
Take a minute in the store and read the rebate. Make sure you understand the small print and that you have met the purchase requirements and the rebate period has not expired.

Number Four
Place the receipt, rebate form, and UPCs in an envelope immediately when you get home. Those UPCs are small and can get lost. Receipts to us are like the socks in the dryer, they just disappear to never be seen again. We immediately address the envelope (sometimes just the first line of the address) and place the rebate form, UPCs, and receipt in the envelope and place it on the desk for later.  Sometimes we complete the envelope before we shop for the products.

Make a copy of the rebate form and receipt. Create a rebate file or keep track of your rebates on a spreadsheet. We have never had a problem with getting rebates back but you never know. You can create a spreadsheet with the name of the company, contact information, when the rebate was mailed, and the link to the offer.

Rebate Review

| March 20, 2011

A rebate is money back, normally by mail, when you purchase a particular product or products. It is very important to read the rebate forms carefully and follow the instructions exactly.

A Satisfaction Guarantee is not a rebate. Most if not all products give you a satisfaction guarantee which is very different than a rebate. A satisfaction guarantee gives you your money back if you are not satisfied with the product. A rebate is a reward (usually a check to take to the bank) for purchasing the product.

Look for a Try Me Free peelie on products, this would be a rebate for trying the product.

Rebate forms are photographed and posted on Frugal Fairhope when we find one in the store. Rebate forms are posted on Frugal Fairhope when we find a link to an online rebate form. The rebates we find online are also posted on the Fixed Pages on the right sidebar of Frugal Fairhope. This will give you the opportunity to find all the current rebates in one spot without having to go through pages and pages of Frugal Fairhope posts.

We will change the date when the Fixed Page has been updated with a new rebate.

Here are some tips for rebates:

  • Read Read Read. Pull out your magnifying glass and READ the rebate form. If the instructions are not clear you can call the manufacture by searching for the company name on Swagbucks (good opportunity to get some Swagbucks :-D ) and ask for more details. Sometimes a 800 number is listed on the rebate form.

Do you remember your grandmother with a closet of shoe boxes of UPC codes?

Rebates are the last step of our Ultimate Shopping Trip. Some of you may remember our talks from the Free Frugal Fairhope Coupon Workshops or from this post http://www.frugalfairhope.com/the-ideal-shopping-trip where we showed you a great example of how to stack all of these in one Publix trip.

Caregivers Marketplace Rebate Program

| March 17, 2011

This rebate program is free to anyone who gives, gets, or needs care.

Caregivers Marketplace

Here is the information directly from their site:

The Caregivers Marketplace is the nation’s first free program specifically designed to offer cash back on products not typically covered by insurance or Medicare. We work with leading manufacturers to negotiate cash back on carefully selected products and services that you need to keep your loved one well cared for, healthy and most importantly, home. Products eligible for cash back include nutrition, digestive health, incontinence, bathing and skin care, and aids for daily living. We do not sell products. We simply make it possible for you to receive cash back on products you may already buy and use.

How does this program work?

Whenever you purchase any of the eligible products, wherever they are sold, save your original sales receipts. When you have collected a minimum of five eligible products, fill out the cash back request form, attach the original receipts and send them in. You’ll receive a cash back check in 4-6 weeks.

Is there a maximum number of times I can request cash back?
No. There is no limit to the number of times you can request cash back. We encourage you to submit requests regularly. The more you request, the more you save. We do reserve the right to limit quantities to normal household consumption. No group, organizational or institutional cash back requests can be honored.
