Cold Tip for Hot Power Bills
Here is cold tip for those hot power bills.
- Do you work away from the home?
- Would you disciplined about your time and use of power?
If the answers to these questions is “yes”, read on.
Power companies offer other options to using power and paying the flat rate. Using the example of Alabama Power, one of the options they offer is a Family Dwelling Time of Use (FDT) billing option. This means that you get to choose the rate you want to pay depending on the time of day that you use power. Check out this site for Alabama Power customers.
If you are not home during the day; you might want to consider this option.
Here is how it works for Alabama Power customers (your power company could be slightly different), you pay a base charge of $21.91, then you pay the following rates depending on the time you use power. Using power during the Off Peak times = significant savings!
Here are the rates and times:
June-September (Monday – Friday)
- On Peak (noon-7pm ) $.17 kWh
- Intermediate Period (10am – noon and 7pm-9pm) $.06 kWh
- Off Peak (9:01pm-9:50am) $.03 kWh
FFF Tip: During the summer cook with your electric stove after 7pm and do laundry in the morning or after 9pm (after the kids are asleep). That in itself will save you a significant amount of money each month. But, remember the two questions we mentioned first, you need to be disciplined to take advantage of the savings.
Thanks Eddie
