Did You Ever Notice?

As you know the cost of the Sunday Mobile Press Register $2, but did you know that the cost of the Sunday Pensacola News Journal is $1.50?

There are some major differences in coupons between the  two papers (two different markets).  Here is an photo of the P&G insert for Covergirl in the Mobile Press Register that was purchased in the Fairhope area:

Here is the same insert in the Pensacola News Journal that was purchased in the Fairhope area. Coupons!!!

Another major difference was that the Pensacola News Journal did not have the Unilever insert, which to us is a pretty major coupon insert that is not to be missed.

For those of you who live in the Mobile area, I am curious to know if your paper has the Covergirl coupons.

For those of you who live in Pensacola we would like to hear if your paper included the Covergirl coupons and the Unilever.

Comment on this post and let us know what part of Mobile/Pensacola you live in (midtown, downtown, west, central) and if your paper included the Covergirl and Unilever coupons.

Coupons vary not only by market area but also if you are a subscriber or not.

Here are our suggestions for getting the Sunday paper:

  • Buy both papers if you live in the Mobile or Pensacola area.
  • Look for other major city papers in your area. Are you able to buy the New Orleans paper?
  • Always purchase at least two papers or an even number so you will have two coupons for the B1G1 deals.
  • Always check your paper for the inserts before you buy. We found two of the Pensacola papers did not include any inserts. It is very frustrating to us to pay $2 for a paper and not get the coupons.
  • Look for stores that not only sell papers but that offer rewards like CVS (again check for the inserts). In the CVS stores you can buy your Sunday paper with your ECBs.
  • The value of coupons on the front page of the Mobile Press Register includes all the coupons throughout the newspaper and not just the inserts. For example the total of $192.76 from yesterday may include the $198 Acne Treatment coupon found on page 5E of the Mobile Press Register.

We absolutely love hearing from our readers so keep us posted on what you found in your Sunday paper.

Some Wal-Mart stores in the Pensacola/Pace area sell the Pensacola News Journal for $1!

    Hi Frances,
I get the Mississippi Press and I didn’t have the cover girl coupons, but I did have the unilever coupon section. I had 4 sections of coupons. This is unique for me because I have never gotten that many before. One time a month I get 3.

I didn’t get the paper this weekend, BUT, here in Pensacola, the paper is $0.99 at any Wal-mart! And also Dollar Tree (even on Mondays they have the Sunday paper).

$.99, what a deal. We pay a whopping $2! I promised myself I would discuss the topic of paying $2 for a paper. OK, so I am officially pouting. I wonder how close the nearest Wal-Mart in Florida would be to Fairhope. :-D

We even have to pay tax on top of the $2, or at least that is what I was charged at Publix. Still not convinced that was correct, so I am holding on to my receipt just in case.

It was an unusual month with 4 inserts, but with all the coupons that expired in July I am not surprised that SmartSource, P&G and RP wanted us to stock up on their coupons.

I didn’t get the paper this week (a little distracted going into labor!) BUT - I have been charged tax the last couple of times I’ve gotten it from a store/gas station. I’ve tried 3 different locations, and been charged tax each time - which means I’m now paying around $2.18 for 1 paper…I was not happy about that!

Oh my and you are on the internet? Wow, I am impressed. Send me an email and tell me about the little one. Congratulations!

i think the closest walmart to fairhope is blue angel parkway, if you take 98 into pensacola. that walmart also has a paper machine for gulfport’s paper.

Oh My gosh! I just read this post (I know a little too late)but, i wanted to tell you that I get the Mobile AND the PNJ because the coupons are sooo different. I live in P’cola and the CG coupons were NOT in the paper but were in the Mobile paper. So, funny, because I am still thinking about this coupon situation and how differeent the papers can be.

I live in Milton, FL and purchased the Pensacola News Journal. I received the Cover Girl coupons, but there was no unilever insert.

  11. Frances says:

    Stephanie,

No reports of Unilever in last Sunday’s sneak peek: http://www.frugalfairhope.com/sunday-coupon-insert-preview-37
