Frances Frugal Fairhope Tip - Stacking & Peelies

We were very excited this week to find the Centrum vitamins on sale for $6.99 this week at Publix. We were even more excited to find that we could share with you the concept of stacking and peelies.

This is an incredible price on the Centrum products. Our last couple of bottles were purchased a couple years ago from Sam’s Club for around $19 for 365ct bottle.
Stacking
As you can see from the breakdown above we stacked a $3/2 Publix coupon and a $3 manufacture coupon. You could also say that we stacked the $5 off $25 Rite Aid coupon as well. Most, if not all stores, will allow their own store coupon and a manufacture coupon per item. Publix is unique in that they will take an additional $5 off every for every visit with this coupon (link above). Using the stacking method resulted in a significant savings.
Peelies
Take a look at the green $1 coupons attached to the packages, those are called peelies. The reason these are called peelies is that you can peel them from the packaging. Most, if not all, Peelies are manufacture coupons that you can use immediately at the register. As you can see from the photograph above we did not use the $1 peelies in this purchase because we had a better opportunity with the $3 manufacture coupons we found in last Sunday’s paper. We asked the clerk at the register to please leave them on the packages (at Publix they will remove them for you in case you forget). We can use them for our next purchase.
This is also a good opportunity to bring up removing peelies from packages. Please do not remove peelies from a package that you are not going to purchase. We talked to 6 major store managers and they all agree that taking peelies from the packages and not purchasing the product is the same as stealing from the store. In most cases to remove a peelie from a product will damage that product and it cannot be sold.
The reason we say most if not all peelies are manufacture coupons, is that sometimes you will find store peelies. If the peelie does not state that it is a manufacture coupon then it is a store peelie and can be stacked with a manufacture coupon. For the past couple of weeks the Fairhope Publix store has a huge display of Special Olympic products near the pharmacy counter, those peelies are store peelies and can be used in combination with a manufacture coupon. Target is another store where you will find store peelies.
