Peelie Pullers Ruin Valentine’s Day?

If you were not convinced before that peeling peelies off packages without purchasing the product is a really bad idea and is considered stealing, check this out.

1-800-Flowers placed peel-off stickers (peelies) on Harry London chocolate boxes, with discounts of up to $20 on a 1-800-Flowers order. These specialty marked boxes of chocolate could be found in Walgreen’s and CVS stores across the country.  Customers that purchased the chocolates could peel off the sticker and receive a special code printed on the sticker to get a discount on the purchase of flowers. This was a great idea right before Valentine’s Day, right…NOT UNTIL some consumers decided to start removing peelies from the boxes of chocolate without purchasing.

It is now reported that flower orders are being canceled and coupon codes are not being honored on thousands of boxes of chocolate.  What makes this even worse is that you could even find the codes being sold on line!

Check out the notice from 1-800-Flowers on their Facebook page:

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to misuse, unfortunately, we cannot honor savings passes affixed as peel-off coupons to Harry London & Fannie May chocolates without a valid proof of purchase. If you have a valid proof of purchase, please contact customer service at 1-800-356-9377 or wecare@1800flowers.com. Apologies for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding!

1-800-Flowers will honor all valid purchases but they have been forced to turn this into a rebate program. Customers who have purchased the chocolates must go online and pay full-price for their flowers, find their receipt or cut out the UPC bar code, and mail it to 1-800-Flowers who will process the discount and apply a credit back to the customer’s credit card. Great, so here is your box of chocolate with a square whole on the back where the UPC code was removed. Or when you’re done with the chocolate could I have the box back? Nice gift huh?

Yuck Deal!

Stealing is removing a product from a store without purchasing the product; this includes anything that is attached to the product.

Please Don’t Peel If You Don’t Buy!
