Short & Sweet Cost Saving Tips

Here are 10 short and sweet cost saving tips. You should know these but sometimes it helps to review. :-)

  1. Make a list when going to the grocery store. Stick to it.
  2. Use grocery and restaurant coupons when you can.
  3. Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent. Close the shades and curtains when you leave the house this summer.
  4. Before you buy anything, research the prices on line and in local stores. Google the coupon codes, model numbers, and check auction sites.
  5. Take your lunch to work.  Stop buying $3-$4 cups of coffee. Drink your coffee at home or at work.
  6. Eat at home as much as possible. Plan meals that are easy to cook or make a couple of dinners on the weekend and freeze. We have a white board in our pantry were we list the “Frugal Fairhope Cafe Menu. This not only gives us an inventory of what meals we can cook but we are able to answer that constant question of  “What is there to eat?”
  7. Bring your own sodas and snacks when watching a movie in a theater.
  8. Pay off your credit card balances each month to avoid finance charges.
  9. Don’t shop when you are stressed, go for a walk instead.
  10. Don’t buy convenient  pre-packaged items. Buy in bulk and use ziploc bags.  Fill up small water bottles at home and take them with you to avoid buying bottled water.
