Tips For Buying A Printer

We have had some people ask about deals on printers. Here are some tips to think about:

  • Shop Toner Not Printer. What you pay in toner every 3-6 months will outweigh the price of the printer. For example if you paid $29.99 for a printer, but the toner costs $40+ that is not really a good deal. We would rather pay hundreds for a printer and have the toner cost $10 each time. You are going to have this printer for a very long time.
  • Refills. Walgreen’s will refill certain models of toner around $9.99.
  • B&W Options. Remember you should not print in color for coupons, so make sure your machine can be set to have the option to not print in color.
  • Google. Once you decide on a model for your printer, and you may have even found it locally. Google the model number to find the best price possible from a reputable company.
  • Refurbished, Other Peoples Problems. Be careful not to buy into the refurbished, which is basically used but paying almost a new price.
  • Price Match. If buying locally like Best Buy, Staples, or Office Depot, Walmart and Target price match if they sell the model you are looking to buy.
  • Company Discount. If buying locally, sign up for the company’s newsletter or Google for discount codes or coupons for the business. Don’t be in a hurry, just wait for the sale.
  • Negotiate. Again, don’t be in a hurry and ask for a discount, most stores will let you have a discount. If not there is another store just like it within decent driving distance. We don’t mind driving for that great deal. Especially on something that we are going to have for years.
  • Extended Warranty? Once you have decided on the model and company, go ahead and research their extended warranty. At the cash register is not the time to make this decision. We personally don’t buy into extended warranty on anything. We have one family member that wouldn’t buy anything without an extended warranty and continues to extend the warranty every year if possible.

We hope these tips will give you something to think about when you looking to buy a printer.
